The University of Victoria’s Engineering and Computer Science Lab Expansion is constructed to meet a net-zero carbon target and features a regionally-sourced hybrid-mass timber structure.
- A low carbon, hybrid-mass timber facility that serves as a living laboratory—complete with built-in sensor technologies—allowing students and professors to collect data for their own learning and investigation.
- The project features the newly constructed mass timber High Bay Research and Structures Laboratory (HBRSL) and a hybrid-mass timber, six-storey Engineering and Computer Science Expansion (ECSE).
- The ECSE building structure incorporates a hybrid-mass timber system with cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor panels and steel columns and beams, while the HBRSL building utilizes glue-laminated (glulam) beams, columns and CLT floor panels.
